West End Urban Health Alliance - Toronto

Alliance Activities

'Fanning the Sparks'

To reach its goals, WEUHA promotes opportunities for groups who are 'on the ground' to be heard! We call this 'fanning the sparks' of local grass-roots initiatives that are making a difference. Some of the ways we stay connected to these intiatives is through special presentations by invited guests where other interested parties can come together to hear about and find ways to support these initiatives.

'Hot Topic Presentations'

Each month WEUHA invites special guests to give alliance members an insight to topical issues and the services and strategies that are available to deal with these issues. Topics for 2010 include:

  • Lessons Learned from the H1N1 Experience
  • Mental Health Care for Ethnic Groups
  • Serving the Homeless in the West End
  • Preparing for the G20 Summit
  • Standardized Discharge Principles & the Community
  • Special Diet Advocacy Tactics
  • Shared Care Models for Mental Health
  • Cultural Competency Training for Volunteers

'Inter-Network Advocacy'

As a member of the Inter-Network Coordinating Group  WEUHA works with colleagues who are members of other alliances in the City to identify and bring forward issues of mutual concern with recommendations for action to the Toronto Central LHIN. Meetings take place quarterly and WEUHA is represented by members of its Administrative Committee.
